How legal is it to make a non-profit (free) game with True Combat somewhere in the name? How legal is it to use assets (textures, sound) from TC?

I'm not so sure about the usage on the name. I think you could probably get away with it depending on the full name. As for the assets (models, sounds, textures, etc.) these are the property of their respective authors unless they are licensed specifically (which afaik, they aren't) and hence one would need to get permission from the authors regarding the inclusion of their work.

Well, the main idea is a 2D "demake", the models are not neccesarily needed, I can try to make my own renders of something or even just try pixel art. I'm pretty sure I can get textures from somewhere too, so my biggest concern are the sounds. Anyone knows what's the license or the owner of those files?

I'm still open to answers, the idea of a True Combat insipired 2D "de-make" isn't dead.
