Hello,

the last few month I was working on a new way to distribute TC:E. The installation of the game was always hard. Today after the ET servers are down and Punkbuster dropped support it is even harder to play online.

So I've created a Git repository, where I'm hosting the game files and created a setup script, which updates Punkbuster and gets you an key for ET.

You can find custom build packages at Github: https://github.com/fabiang/true-combat/releases
Setup:
Just download the package for your Platform, unpack and run install or install.exe.

You can find the repository at Github: https://github.com/fabiang/true-combat
Feel free to fork and create Pull Requests.

There are still some things to do:
  • Support for Mac
  • Add CQB

Some background info:
  • Alsa is supported for Linux (libsdl)
  • Config files for dedicated server are provided
  • all custom scripts and files are under BSD-2-Clause license
  • Git Large File System is used to store the binary files
  • Gulp is used as build system for platform packages
  • Vagrant box provided for easy development setup

Thank you

Great job, crash!

You made me check back and have some fun...
The experience was almost out of the box. However, Massa servers still complained about empty pbkey, and kicked quite soon. Japanese servers with some players, however let me in...

What I am still still seeing is, graphics is not smooth at all, it is not comparable to what I experienced with my old Nvidia 7600 10 years back, even on descent graphics cards. It dramatically destroys game experience, preventing old players to come back.

Any tricks on how to get rid of the constant lags?

Thanks a lot for your efforts...

Thank you.

So what operating system did you run TC:E? I think the installer puts the ETKey into the wrong folder on Windows :|

If anyone has some tweaks for graphics or against the lags feel welcome to post here or to create a pull request on Github.

Thanks for getting back to me.
In fact etkey was not put in the etmain folder. I got one from etkey.org. Now servers do not kick me any more.
Interestingly, I no longer experience performance problems, looks my problems were network related, not graphics.
Thanks again
